Confirmation of Dates and Party Sizes
Depending on your residency status and preferred target species, dates are available from the beginning of September to early November. Please read through our website and let us know your preferences and expectations. Paul will advise you on the most favourable dates and availability.
- Birdtail Waterfowl prefers hunting parties to be no larger than five guests per group. This number aligns with available seats in our trucks and allocated hunting equipment. If you have more than five hunters and want to hunt as a large party, please let us know in advance so that we can do our best to accommodate you.
- Single hunters or pairs will be joined with another group to create a hunting party.
- If you would like to book the entire lodge, please contact Paul for details. When booking the lodge for full capacity, deposits will be due at the time of confirmation.
Travel Insurance
- In case of unforeseen circumstances, we strongly suggest purchasing travel or trip interruption/cancellation insurance. Please confirm with your insurer as to their requirements. Travel insurance is available through various vendors and is your responsibility.
Bird Processing and Donation
- All waterfowl harvested during your hunt must be processed. There are no exceptions. Please see our Bird Processing page for more information.

Top 5 Mistakes New Waterfowl Hunters Make
At Birdtail Waterfowl, we pride ourselves on creating unforgettable hunting experiences in the heart of Manitoba. Our region is a waterfowler’s paradise, with rich migration routes and incredible bird numbers—but even in the best conditions, success hinges on how well hunters prepare, adapt, and execute in the field. For newcomers, avoiding a few key mistakes can make all the difference.

How Weather Influences Waterfowl Hunting
Waterfowl hunting is as much about understanding the weather as it is about having the right gear and skills. Ducks and geese move, feed, and migrate based on changing weather patterns, making conditions a critical factor in a successful hunt. At Birdtail Waterfowl, a Manitoba waterfowl outfitters, we use our deep knowledge of weather patterns to help hunters make the most of their time in the field.
